Looking Younger The Botox Way

By Marlene Ataine

It has a safety record that is outstanding. It is affordable to get treated. The results are non-permanent but last for some time. And the results turn back the clocks of time. This is the calling card of Botox. Botox is an injection that is used to treat wrinkles and common skin symptoms brought about by the aging process or sun damage. By relaxing the underlying muscles, these lines become less deep. Contrary to any myths floating out there, Botox does not travel anywhere else in the body. It is localized to the area of the injection. It gradually wears off naturally over a 3-6 month period.

It's not surprising that Botox is so popular. With an exceptional safety record over the past twenty years, and a price point that is very comfortable and relatively cheap compared with alternatives. Botox has been purified under very strict controlled conditions. It is a bacterium called clostridium botulinum.

It's not just for woman any longer. There is the need and desire among men to look younger. As a result, they are turning to Botox in record numbers. Looking younger or the desire to look younger is no longer just the domain of women. The market for men is booming. Some industry reports have estimated that the number of men getting Botox injections has tripled in the past six years. At that time, that was about a half a million men, or roughly 10% of all Botox injections.

A lot of reasons are cited to explain the large growing segment of the market that is now looking for youth enhancing procedures. It's not surprising that woman, including girlfriends, family members, and wives are introducing the benefits of looking younger to their male counterparts. The social stigma of not appearing to care about how they look is no longer in fashion for men. Appearance matters and it is becoming evident in study after study.

What Groups Should Avoid Botox?

For a number of reasons, pregnant women, nursing mothers, or patients with neuromuscular diseases like myasthenia gravis, Lambert-Eaton syndrome, or AML, should not use Botox. You should not use Botox if you are allergic to human albumin. It is not recommended in pregnancy or nursing because it has not been tested.

Your specialist may numb the injection area slightly, but it is certainly not a necessity. The needle used for Botox injections is very fine and you should barely feel it. Normally, there procedure is quite fast. Usually, it will take under ten minutes. And there is no recovery time required, so you can go back to work or off to another errand if desired.

The price point for your Botox treatment is quite reasonable. In fact, this is one of the main reasons for the popularity of the treatment. Depending on the nature of the treatment, a BOTOX session will usually cost between $300 and $400 per syringe. Every four to six months, patients will have to return to have another procedure in order to maintain their results.
